How rolling develops
Around 5 months, babies start to push up on their arms, arch their backs, rock and kick. This builds the strength they need. Most roll from stomach to back first, but going the other way first is perfectly normal.
What can help
While your baby is awake, place them on their stomach with their arms forward, and use an interesting toy to encourage them to lift their head.
Keeping a rolling baby safe
Babies who can roll can flip over without warning, so never leave your baby alone on a changing table. Changing them on the floor or a bed is safer.
